Photography is more than documentation. It is a language of perception, a way of revealing how we experience ourselves, other people and the world around us. The Stories We Frame is a curated cultural experience exploring photography as both an art form and a practical tool for expressing artistic identity, personal brand and story.
Photography, Perception & the Poetry of Seeing
Before a photograph is made, something has already happened: we have chosen what to notice.
What we frame. What we leave outside the frame. Where we stand. What we are drawn towards. The light we follow. The details others might overlook.
Photography is more than documentation. It is a language of perception, a way of revealing how we experience ourselves, other people and the world around us.
The Programme
♦️ Opening Welcome - The Poetry of Seeing
An introduction to photography as an act of attention, exploring how perspective, memory, emotion and personal experience influence what we notice, and therefore what we photograph.
What do you see that someone else might walk past?
♦️ Artist Conversation - The Stories We Frame
A conversation with guest artists and photographers whose work reflects distinct ways of seeing.
♦️ Practical Photography Experience - Finding Your Frame
Using a camera or simply your phone, we will explore the surrounding space through a series of creative prompts.
The emphasis is not technical perfection. It is learning to recognise your instinct, your curiosity and your visual point of view.
♦️ Building Your Visual Language
We will look at:
— visual consistency without repetition
— colour, light, texture and atmosphere
— composition and recurring motifs
— what you include and what you leave out
— portraits and self-representation
— documenting process rather than only finished work
— sequencing photographs to tell a story
— selecting images for portfolios, websites and social platforms
♦️ Wine, Image Sharing & Creative Social
Over wine and informal networking, participants will be invited to share selected images, exchange interpretations and discover how differently the same environment can be perceived.
What You Leave With
A stronger sense of your visual identity.
Practical ways to use photography to communicate your work and personal brand.
A small collection of images created during the experience.
And a framework for continuing to develop a visual language that feels personal rather than borrowed.
